attention to your child's needs. In addition to being safe, an environment should be challenging and comfortable.
Above all, the relationship with your caregiver should leave you feeling secure about having your child in the
program.

Recognized Standards for Quality Care
When selecting a program for children or talking to your current provider, ask if they are a
member of the Smart Start Child Care Association.
Programs committed to quality may choose to be members of Smart Start, participate in Texas
Rising Star program, or be accredited by the National Association for Education of Young Children
(NAEYC). The standards set forth by these organizations can be used as indicators to help parents
choose quality care.
